This place does not disappoint. We have been there for a couple of times over years and it has been constantly good. All food items and drinks were made really well. The menu changes so telling you we liked may not help. Suffice it to say that the salad 4d$ressing was pleasantly interesting, the gnocchi was very flavorful with buttery consistency, and the dover sole was made to perfection. The Dolci were very tasty too, some of the best gelatos you'll have. Very friendly and prompt service.
Excellent experience all around. Our server was great, the atmosphere enjoyable, and all 6 courses of the chefs tasting menu were delicious and artfully, impeccably prepared. Incredibly fresh seafood and cheese and pasta in particular. We’ll have to come back more often. Cocktails were quality as well!
I took my wife for an early birthday dinner and this place exceeded my expectations!!!!! Food was EXCELLENT, and the ambiance was really nice! Our waiter was blah, but that didn't take away too much from the experience we had!
Great atmosphere, accompanied by attentive service! I would highly recommend having your date night, anniversary etc here. This is my second time visiting and everything I’ve ordered has been cooked perfectly and delicious! Thank you Oak & Reel for a great night out!
Overall it was a very good place to visit. We did the chefs tasting and surprisingly they didn't ask if there were any dietary restrictions due to food allergies. Well one of us is allergic to eel and a dish had eel as part of it, thankfully it was isolated to the side of the dish so the rest could still be enjoyed.
I felt the total portions were a little on the 'too much' size when one is a heavy pasta dish and a couple of our group weren't able to eat all of the main dish as they said "I hope to get any of the dessert in me", but maybe that's a good problem to have for some.
The ravioli was probably my favorite of the evening, so much so that I'd be happy with that were it still on the menu the next time we go there.
So yes, we would for sure go back, everything tasted great, our server was amazing except for what was noted above, and even though it was a little loud it was a very nice evening.
Why has it taken me this long to visit?? We went here for our anniversary dinner. The service was lovely, I have not had service like this at any restaurant in Michigan. The tasting menu was well worth it, each dish was delightful. Really appreciate a chef of this caliber opening such an inviting and quality restaurant in Detroit. We will be back.
The food was chef's kiss! All items well explained, with great drink pairing. The seats were very comfortable and loved the dreamy esthetic. Great dessert as well! Recommend for special occasions! Also there is a cute little honey comb hideout in the basement for night caps and small plates!
Oak and Reel was fantastic! It definitely lives up to the hype. The service was impeccable. Our food was well timed, the server was friendly and we felt very well attended to and never rushed. You must order the pasta. These are standout dishes on the menu. The appetizers are also good. I loved the crostini with pesto ricotta and prosciutto. The fish was not as good. The fish itself was well cooked. However the accompaniments were underwhelming and odd tasting. The desserts were incredible. Especially the panna cotta. On Mondays, bottles of wine are half off. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a celebration or a nicer meal. They will make you feel special!
